I am a broad-based organismal biologist with primary research interests in insect taxonomy, aquatic entomology, and arthropod biodiversity. I have published approximately 100 peer-reviewed papers and book chapters, most representing either systematic revisions of major taxa or regional studies of faunal biodiversity. My pedagogical activities encompass development and instruction of several courses, including Aquatic Insects, Systematic Entomology, Advanced Systematics, and various field- and special-topics courses. I am known for my commitment to providing field experiences for students through trips to local and out-of-state destinations (e.g., Appalachian Mountains, Ozark Plateau, Pacific Northwest).
