ISU Department of Entomology graduate, Dr. Scott Hutchins has been selected by President Trump to serve as the U.S. Undersecretary of Research, Education, and Economics (REE) for the USDA

ISU Department of Entomology graduate, Dr. Scott Hutchins has been selected by President Trump to serve as the U.S. Undersecretary of Research, Education, and Economics (REE) for the USDA. Dr. Hutchins received his Ph.D. at Iowa State University under the mentorship of Dr. Larry Pedigo in 1987. Dr. Hutchins has gone on to have a long and outstanding career with Dow and Dow/Corteva. Dr. Hutchins has had an active role in national leadership, holding a variety of leadership positions in the Entomological Society of America (ESA) including president of the organization in 1987.  

Hutchins has been instrumental in providing national leadership to the Society and was instrumental in directing the society toward a historic restructuring and renewal that has resulted in a vibrant and growing society today. Dr. Hutchins selected theme for the national meeting that he designed remains relevant, “Making Connections: Innovation, Initiative, and Influence.”

We are very proud that one of our graduates achieved such a high honor and continues to place his stamp on national agriculture and entomology.
