Group picture of the University of Costa Rica students outsideThe ISU/UCR Study Abroad Exchange is a reciprocal travel exchange program for student groups in horticulture and allied sciences between Iowa State University (ISU) and the University of Costa Rica (UCR). The Program has facilitated study abroad group travel for 10- to 12-day periods to farms and agricultural research centers in the host country annually since 1999. Over 140 Iowa State University students have participated in 10 Study Abroad trips to Costa Rica offered every other year through the Tropical Crops course, PLP M/ENT/HORT 511. Approximately 140 University of Costa Rica students have visited Iowa in the alternate years.

From July 16 to 27, 2018, 13 students and 3 faculty advisors from UCR toured and studied in Iowa, including being able to watch RAGBRAI bike riders as they passed through central Iowa.
