The Entomology and PLPM departments are proud to celebrate Mark Gleason (PLPM) and John VanDyk (ENT) for their 25 years of service at Iowa State University. Mark and John join 66 other faculty and staff who hit the 25 year mark in 2021 and are invited to the 25 Year Club gathering and dinner next week. Gassmann’s research focuses on interactions between crop plants and insect pests, and approaches for improving agricultural sustainability. In particular, he is interested in factors affecting the evolution of resistance by insect pests to genetically engineered crops that produce insecticidal proteins derived from the bacterium Bacillus thuringiensis (Bt), and ways in which agricultural systems can be managed to delay Bt resistance. Jim Oleson Scholarship in Entomology
The Jim Oleson Scholarship in Entomology provides scholarships for one undergraduate or graduate student majoring in Insect Science or Entomology per year. Scholarships are for one year but may be renewed for additional years. The scholarship will be awarded on the basis of academic promise and initiative and hence a minimum grade point average of 3.0 is required. Recent past award recipients were Teresa Blader in 2016, Edmund Norris in 2017, and Ashley St. Clair in both 2018 & 2019.
