Project
The Bugeye System is a camera on a robotic arm, created by the University of Illinois. The camera captures small micro images that are stitched together with another program called Stitchdaemon. This allows us to capture high-resolution images of entire insect drawers. This system is helping the Iowa State Insect Collection (ISIC) digitize the pinned collection and is part of a collaborative project that will connect the ISIC with other collections and researchers across the Midwest, United States, and internationally.
By using the Bugeye, we can provide high-resolution images of the collection to off-site researchers and other users, so they can better determine if certain specimens are needed for revisionary studies or other purposes.
