Summary

Lady beetle larvae (Coleomegilla maculata) were fed a diet of 1 of 5 pollen mixtures (0, 25, 50, 75, 100% transgenic), aphids, or nothing. The pollen was from Cry3Bb expressing corn (Mon 863). Larval development and pupal weight were assessed. In a second trial, there was no unfed group and the aphid treatment was replaced with an artificial diet. In addition to larval and pupal development, adult mobility, survivorship, and fecundity were assessed. No adverse affects of Bt pollen were observed.

Comments

Well-designed study. Made sure of consuption of pollen. Surprisingly, could not detect the protein in the beetle, even in 100% transgenic pollen fed treatments.
