The effects of Bt kurstaki on nontarget Lepidoptera were monitored in the field for 3 years after a single-season application of Btk. Species richness of leaf-feeding Lepidoptera on Garry oak was significantly reduced in treated plots all 3 years of the study. In addition, populations of nontarget Lepidoptera were reduced during the first 2 years, but not the third year.
This study did not use Bt from transgenic plants.
