Summary
The effects of alkaloid nicotine and the flavonoid rutin on toxicity of Btk to larval Manduca sexta were evaluated. Survival of M. sexta was higher at higher concentrations of nicotine, but high concentrations of rutin did not increase survival. In addition, colony growth of Bt was reduced to a greater extent on agar containing nicotine compared to agar containing rutin. |
This paper suggests that plant allelochemicals may be potentially important factors in reducing larval mortality caused by Bt on certain crops.
