This insect is a longhorned beetle in the insect family Cerambycidae, whose larvae are more commonly regarded as pests of woody crops. However, the Dectes stem borer, Dectes texanus, feeds on herbaceous plants such as soybean. The larvae are found within the stems of a soybean plant and are white in color and are about 1/2-inch long as full-grown larvae. The adults are gray in color with long antennae. The adult beetle is about 3/8 inch long and is gray in color.
