EXCURSION

Delegates will have a choice of two destinations for the excursion (booked on a first-come-first-served basis): Warwick Castle or Stratford-upon-Avon. Travel will be by coach departing from the campus Arts Centre. After the excursion, the barbecue will be held back on the main campus next to the University sports pavilion.

Warwick Castle

Warwick castle is arguably the most complete of medieval castles in the world. During the summer months the castle has many special events such as jousting, archery, sword  fighting and falconry displays. A fantastic place to visit.

Stratford-upon-Avon

Stratford-upon-Avon is birthplace of William Shakespeare and a world famous tourist destination. Many visitors to the University like to visit Stratford upon Avon to visit the many properties associated with Shakespeare; Shakespeare's birthplace, Ann Hathaway's Cottage, Mary Arden's House, New Place, Nash's House and Hall's Croft - all but Mary Arden's House are in Stratford itself. Shakespeare is buried in Holy Trinity Church – a short walk along the riverside.

5K RACE

Following the tradition set in several recent meetings the 5k fun run will take place on Campus early (about 7am) on the Tuesday morning and for most participants will finish in time for the first scientific session. There will be separate categories for walkers and runners and for men and women spread over several age bands. Prizes for the top three in each cetegory will be presented at the BBQ on the Tuesday evening. The entry fee for the run includes a meeting tee shirt and refreshments at the end of the race.

BANQUET

HotelThe Banquet will be held at the Britannia Royal Court Hotel. This is a Tudor style manor house originally built in 1894 as a private residence for William Hillman, an entrepreneur form nearby Coventry and founder of the Hillman Motor Company. After the banquet we'll have music and a ceilidh from the highly rated band Warblefly. We hope you'll still have energy for this! One of the band members is a research entomologist and, in addition to playing gigs around the world, they're used to playing to crowds of partying scientists! Not to be missed!
