The Medical Entomology laboratory at Iowa State University has a long history of providing expertise to the people of the state of Iowa regarding mosquitoes, mosquito-borne diseases, ticks and tick-borne diseases. We have long-standing collaborative ties to the Iowa Department of Public Health and State Hygienic laboratory, with whom we work to test mosquitoes for infection status and relay information to the public on the risk of contracting mosquito- and tick-borne illness. These programs were initiated by Dr. Wayne Rowley (Professor Emeritus), and continued by Dr. Lyric Bartholomay. For more information on the continuation of this important work, please contact Dr. Sue Blodgett, Chair of the Department of Entomology.
