Numerous exotic pest species have been associated with imports of lumber, logs, and solid wood packing materials. Recent changes and additionally proposed changes in the US Department of Agriculture's requirements for solid wood packing materials and development of pest risk evaluations for shipment of logs from areas of concern may greatly reduce the incidence of pest introductions into the United States. This presentation will focus on pests introduced through this pathway, the regulatory activities associated with wood products including field survey, monitoring of receiver sites, and the anticipated affects on the state regulatory processes due to the newly proposed federal regulations.
