Smith Lab: Overview

Our research interests are broadly focused on the study of the innate immune system and how mosquito immunity influences vector competence and pathogen transmission.

We are currently investigating how malaria parasite survival and transmission are influenced by mosquito immunity. With an ultimate goal to reduce the heavy burden of malaria, our lab uses an interdisciplinary approach to better understand the host-pathogen interactions between the malaria parasite and the mosquito host.

We are also interested in extending our knowledge into other mosquito species and arbopathogen models.
