Richard L. Hellmich

Dr. Hellmich Assistant Professor; Ph.D., The Ohio State University (1983)
Department Position: 100% research, USDA Research Entomologist, USDA-ARS, Corn Insects and Crop Genetics Research Unit

Dr. Hellmich investigates the genetics and ecology of corn insect pests. He also is interested in managing European corn borer resistance to transgenic corn and evaluating effects of transgenic corn on non-target organisms. He is using a molecular approach to study the population genetics of corn insects. Before coming to Iowa State University, Dr. Hellmich studied the genetics and behavior of honey bees.
