Robert completed an M.S. in entomology that tested whether soybean varieties with resistance to soybean aphid affected defoliating insect pests.
I accepted a research assistantship at Iowa State University in 2011 focused on insect-pathogenic fungi and their interactions with cropping practices. Along the way I have helped with experiments on western corn rootworm, including a field studies that used insect pathogens to help manage corn rootworm. I completed my M.S. in summer 2013 and began my Ph.D. research the same summer with the management of soybean aphid and soybean cyst nematode using host plant resistance and pesticidal seed treatments.
