The western corn rootworm, Diabrotica virgifera virgifera LeConte, and the northern corn rootworm, Diabrotica barberi Smith and Lawrence, are both important pests of corn in the Midwest. We study various tools for integrated pest management of rootworm.
Dr. Jakka's research focused on Bt resistance monitoring, characterization of Bt resistance and cross-resistance patterns among Bt toxins for western corn rootworm (Diabrotica virgifera virgifera).
I accepted a research assistantship at Iowa State University in 2011 focused on insect-pathogenic fungi and their interactions with cropping practices. Along the way I have helped with experiments on western corn rootworm, including a field studies that used insect pathogens to help manage corn rootworm. I completed my M.S. in summer 2013 and began my Ph.D. research the same summer with the management of soybean aphid and soybean cyst nematode using host plant resistance and pesticidal seed treatments.
