Why Undergraduate Research?Research is fundamental part of Iowa State University’s mission to foster learning through discovery and engagement. Undergraduate research allows you to work with graduate students, staff and faculty in a focused discipline. Other benefits include gaining hands-on experience beyond the classroom, presenting/publishing your research project, and making connections for the next step in your career. No experience is necessary to work in my lab, but a sincere interest in field research and entomology is desired. Find out more information on undergraduate research opportunities in the Department of Entomology. Why Graduate Research?Iowa State University has a strong and extensive background in research, teaching and extension. There are many chances for interactions with faculty, staff and other students that can greatly enhance your graduate research experience. If you have an interest in field crops, IPM, plant-insect interactions, or insect resistance management, then the Gassmann Lab might be for you. I also strongly encourage students to present their research at scientific meetings and extension programs, and publish in scientific journals. I believe that the best way to learn to be a scientist is to act like one – you will be treated as a colleague. Students who are bright, independent, creative, and have a collaborative mindset will succeed in my lab.
