Exams and Proctors

This is an online course. Even the exams are taken online. We have a test every Friday. Each student is required to have an Exam Proctor. This is someone who can vouch that when you took the exam, you did not use any materials such as websites, notes, or books.

Guidelines for Selecting a Proctor

You, the student, are responsible for making arrangements for a proctor by contacting an official from one of the categories listed below. Those typically approved as proctors include:

  • Elementary or secondary school superintendents, principals, teachers or guidance counselors

  • Professional employees of accredited post secondary colleges or universities
  • Professionals working for public or private libraries
  • Commissioned officers of the military (National Guard)
  • Clergy
  • Iowa State University Extension staff including county Extension staff
  • Other responsible individuals are approved on a case by case basis.

No relative or immediate work supervisor may proctor an examination.

Download and print out the Proctor Agreement, have your proctor fill it out and return it to the instructor. Proctors do not need to receive any additional information from the instructor; the role of the proctor is to vouch that you did not use any outside materials during the online WebCT exam.

Note: Proctor information is subject to verification. Providing false information is subject to Iowa State University rules for academic dishonesty.

Note: To accommodate the schedules of off-campus students, exams may be taken early starting at 5 pm CST on Thursday and all day Friday.

Alternative for On-Campus Students

If you have access to Iowa State University's campus, you may take the exams in the testing facility at 60 Carver Hall; there is a proctor there. If you use the 60 Carver Hall facility, you do not need to file a proctor form (please do send an email to the instructor, though, indicating that you will be going to Carver, so I can get your name on the list).

Fall hours of operation for 60 Carver can be found here.
