General Morphology of Insecta

The general morphological features of insects include:

(1) Three pairs of legs. One pair is attached to each of three thoracic segments.

(2) One pair of segmented antennae.

(3) Two pairs of wings -- a total of four wings. There are some orders of insects without wings and some orders with only one pair. The wings are attached to the thoracic region, not to the abdomen as many people erroneously believe.
